FITZROY STREET, CAMBRIDGE

Fitzroy Street (viewed from right)

The project to demolish the existing early 1960’s retail units at 2-14 Fitzroy Street and replace with new 2-storey retail units commenced in April 2004. The confined site is within the pedestrian shopping and conservation area adjacent to the Grafton Centre.

The new building has concrete pad foundations, reinforced concrete ground beams and trench fill foundations. The structural steel frame and ‘holorib’ reinforced concrete slab construction comprises the structure of the building. Included within the building are goods and passenger lifts and the landlords services. The structure is to be completed to basic shell standards for fit out by the future retail tenants.

The exterior of the building is carefully designed to use high quality materials such as the constituted stone and frameless glazing. The external works include a granite sett paving to the boundary in Fitzroy Street that will contribute to improving the street scene of the busy pedestrian thoroughfare.
